We have created a new position for an Assistant Accountancy Officer  to support our Finance Team by being responsible for carrying out daily finance processes and maintaining key controls around accounts payable, accounts receivable and cashiers functions.  The role will also be expected to be flexible in order to support the delivery of effective and timely financial and accounting services to all stakeholders concerned with the operation of HCL’s services.
 
MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY 
  • To focus on the needs of HCL’s clients, assisting with any problems and queries. To provide budget managers with timely, business focused and clear financial advice and guidance, responding to feedback and amending as appropriate.
  • The role will be a key part of HCL’s transactional finance processes, and will include working with the Accountancy Officer to:
    • Import & reconcile daily bank statements;
    • Maintain key balance sheet accounts;
    • Process invoices to suppliers – securing relevant authorisation from budget managers;
    • Carry out payment runs;
    • Monitor customer debt;
    • Managing customer and vendor accounts and details within the accounting system
  • To draw on knowledge, experience and qualifications to promote best financial practice and compliance with the relevant accounting, statutory and HCL financial regulations and procedures. 
  • To demonstrate an understanding of financial regulations and procedures and respond promptly, and bring to the attention of the Principal Finance Officer or Accountancy Officer, any emerging issues within allocated areas of work.
  • To liaise and work closely with colleagues within all of HCL’s departments to help develop best practice and to support the delivery of professional finance services that enable HCL managers to meet their targets and business plans.
  • To lead on or support the production of financial management information to meet the needs of HCL managers and to make use of information systems in order to work as closely with managers as possible.
  • To contribute to identification, and realisation of, opportunities for service improvement and increased efficiency, including through the use of new technology.
  • To deliver work effectively and use own initiative, taking responsibility for the accurate and timely processing of financial data and maintenance of financial records.
 PERSON SPECIFICATION
  •  This role would suit an individual who is interested in a career in accounting and who is considering or already in possession of AAT qualifications or      similar.
  • Ability to build effective relationships at all levels with both internal and external customers creating trust and confidence. 
  • Experience of working in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills demonstrating the ability to communicating either verbally, on the telephone and by email with a variety of stakeholders including customers, suppliers and across the organisation, tailoring the information to suit all levels.  You will also demonstrate the ability to deal with difficult telephone conversations.
  • Good understanding of financial processes and procedures and the ability to explain financial matters in clear, understandable terms to customers and non-finance staff within HCL, providing reports when necessary.
  • Competent at keeping accurate manual and computer records which you will be able to interpret and report on.
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to work to and apply all relevant policies and procedures and to ensure that colleagues adhere to them.
  • Ability to work independently, as well the ability to work effectively as part of the team and with third party providers.  
  • Excellent IT skills and experience of working with large databases is desirable as well as a good knowledge of Microsoft office applications especially Excel.
